Scottish Power has been billing me for gas based on readings from my neighbour’s meter. I have now moved to a different property but I’m unable to close the account on my old address as the online account still shows the incorrect meter number and therefore the wrong amount due. IW, London
Remarkably, Scottish Power’s press office discovers that you owe a mere £51 which it will waive as a goodwill gesture and pay you £150 in compensation. It blames an “anomaly” with the meters but declines to explain why it has ignored your repeated attempts to resolve it.
