Four years ago I insured my boiler with Scottish Power HomeComfort at £14.50 a month. When it stopped working earlier this year, the engineer said he was astounded Scottish Power had agreed to insure the boiler because of its age, and because most of the parts are unobtainable. This means that it can’t be repaired, but Scottish Power has only offered to refund one year’s payments. RC, Edinburgh
It takes Scottish Power two months after I get in touch to realise that not only are you out of pocket, but that you didn’t receive an annual inspection to which you were entitled.
It doesn’t explain why it tried to fob you off with such paltry compensation for four years of invalid cover. “We are sorry that our initial checks did not identify that the boiler was not suitable for cover,” a spokesperson says. “In addition to a full refund of premiums paid, we have offered £60 goodwill for the missed service appointment.”
