Scottish police yet to receive warrant for Dublin footballer Anthony Stokes

Scottish police have yet to be notified of an arrest warrant for ex-Ireland and Celtic footballer Anthony Stokes.

Stokes (32) failed to appear before Hamilton Sheriff Court in Scotland for bombarding his ex-girlfriend’s father with offensive text messages.

Instead, he opted to stay in Dublin as he had a tryout with League of Ireland champions Shamrock Rovers.

Sheriff Allan McKay issued a warrant for his arrest in court and said he did not think Stokes would come back unless forced to do so.

But The Star has learned there has been no movement on the attempt to arrest Stokes yet.

On the day of the court hearing, the striker was involved in the club’s warm-up before a league game but it was later confirmed Rovers would not be signing him.

Stokes had admitted messaging his ex Eilidh Scott’s dad George despite being under a court order banning him from contacting him.

He pleaded guilty in May to breaching the conditions of a non-harassment order but was nowhere to be seen when his case was back up in court.

Sheriff McKay said: “The attitude I get is he frankly does what he wishes and that is not acceptable to me.

“He pled guilty, was released on bail and he has now left the country in breach of bail.”
