Scottish police hunt lorry driver who injured two cyclists in hit-and-run on A7

Two cyclists have been injured following a hit-and-run on the A7 Edinburgh to Carlisle.

Police are now on the hunt for the driver that struck the cyclists with a pickup truck.

The two men, ages 44 and 53, were knocked off their bikes by a silver Ford Ranger in Dumfriesshire.

The driver did not stop to assist following the collision, which left the two cyclists with injuries that police confirm were treated at the scene.

As reported by the Daily Record, the pair had been travelling with six other cyclists at the time of the incident.

Although police are looking for the driver of the Ford Ranger, they stressed that they might not have been aware that they had struck the cyclists.

Police are also interested in speaking to the driver of a white car which was travelling north on the road at the time of the crash, as well as any other witnesses and those with dash-cam footage.

Dumfries and Galloway Police Division released a statement as part of their investigation into the crash.

It read: "Police Scotland is appealing for information following a road traffic collision in Ewes.

"A around 11.25am, on Saturday, June 19, 2021 a group of eight cyclists were travelling south on the A7, Edinburgh to Carlisle road, near to Brier Hill, Ewes, when two of the cyclists were struck by a silver coloured Ford Ranger vehicle towing a trailer.

"The male cyclists, aged 44 and 53, came off their bikes and suffered injuries.

"They were treated at the scene.

"The Ford Ranger did not stop and officers are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them.

"It’s possible the driver of the Ford Ranger has not realised they struck the cyclists, however, officers need to speak to the driver.
