Scottish Parliament to be recalled later this month for covid statement

MSPs will be recalled on December 29 for an unscheduled covid statement by the Scottish Government.

It is understood an agreement was reached after a meeting of Holyrood's parliamentary bureau.

Holyrood is currently sitting and goes into recess later this week.

Any statement later this month will be virtual.

It comes as Nicola Sturgeon is set to update the nation on coronavirus rules as cases remain high across the country.

The First Minister will address MSPs in the Scottish Parliament on any potential new restrictions that could be implemented due to fears over the new Omicron variant.

She is due to make her statement around 2.20pm.
