Scottish parents call for families to come together on Christmas Eve and ring a bell for Santa

Scottish parents are calling on people to come together on Christmas Eve to 'ring a bell for Santa' after 'a tough year'.

It comes as the First Minister joked that 'Santa is a keyworker', but warned that Christmas might not feel 'normal' this year.

Now a social media post calling on 'families to come outside' and ring a bell for Santa on Christmas Eve has been shared over 100,000 times.

It is hoped that the gesture could “end 2020 with a bit of magic” for children and local communities.

The post says: “On Christmas Eve at 6pm we are asking everyone to come outside and ring a bell for 2 mins to spread Christmas spirit and to help Santa fly that sleigh.

“After a tough year it would be an amazing memory for the kids and communities. End 2020 with a bit of Magic, hope and togetherness!”

One parent was impressed by the idea, penning: "The bairns would love this I bet.

"Listening to all the bells for Santa."

Another added: "Fantastic idea, i've got goosebumps just thinking about it - it's been a terrible year, especially for families with young children."

A third agreed, adding: "Like the film Elf... We've all got to believe in Christmas spirit for the sleigh to fly."
