Scottish Open round-up as Bernd Wiesberger breaks course record to share lead

Austrian Bernd Wiesberger shot a record-breaking score to share the lead at the Scottish Open .

He drained no fewer than 11 birdies to shoot a stunning 61 and join Lee Slattery and Erik van Rooyen atop the Renaissance Club leaderboard.

Five of those came consecutively at the end of his round to bring Wiesberger onto 14-under.

And he said: “I hit a lot of shots quite close and obviously coming in, finishing off with five birdies is a bonus but it was a good day out there today.

“I hadn’t shot 10 under in a professional event before so that was a nice bonus.”

Italy's Nino Bertasio lies two shots back as does Henrik Stenson after he shot an impressive 65, with American Justin Thomas also in the mix on 11-under.

Scotland's Callum Hill is tied for 11th on 10-under after he carded the joint-third lowest score of the day with a 64.

Elsewhere, Bradley Dredge bagged himself a brand new BMW X7 with a hole-in-one at the par 3 seventh.

The event offers three places at next week's Open Championship for players who finish in the top 10 and have not yet qualified for the big one at Royal Portrush.
