CHAPELCROSS nuclear power station has been put up for sale alongside nearly 500 acres of surrounding land.
Located in Annan in Dumfries and Galloway, the plant was in operation from 1959 to 2004 and originally produced weapons-grade plutonium for the UK's nuclear weapons programme.
The plant also generated electrical power for the National Grid.
Now Chapelcross has gone up for sale alongside 198 hectares of land and has been marked as a “rare” investment opportunity with “strategic development opportunities”.
The brochure reads: “An opportunity to purchase a strategic site on a scale rarely available in the UK. The site is available on a phased basis as a whole or parts.
“The Seller in conjunction with its partners Dumfries and Galloway Council and South of Scotland Enterprise, invite proposals from interested parties. “The existing facility is in the process of being de-commissioned.”
The site has also been identified as a potential Hydrogen Hub in the Scottish Government’s Hydrogen Action Plan and by Scottish Futures Trust as a possible host for a Data Centre.
The site also comes with an "existing skilled workforce, good digital connectivity, a supportive planning authority, direct access to the National Grid Power Network and a water pipeline connection to Solway Firth/Irish Sea".
Avison Young is the global commercial real estate services firm administering the sale.
