Scottish Net Zero Community come together in Falkirk to discuss national targets

The Scottish Net Zero Community came together in Falkirk to discuss the national target of reaching Net Zero by 2045.

Around 70 SMEs from across the country gathered at the Falkirk Wheel on Tuesday November 9 to learn how they could achieve this.

Those who attended heard from included COO of Scottish Canals, Richard Millar and Head of Policy and External Affairs at IEMA, Martin Baxter.

Planet Mark’s #ZeroCarbon Bus Tour also arrived to break down the jargon and help understand what Net Zero truly means.

Along with other speakers, there were also two panels, including a youth one which some delegates referred to as an event highlight.

Launched in January 2021, the Scottish Net Zero Community aims to help the 384,000 SMEs in Scotland to meet the country's 2045 Net Zero target.

With over 850 member organisations, it also hopes to create green jobs to assist the transition towards a greener economy.

The event was run alongside Forth Valley for Net Zero, a partnership of industry, local government and communities in the area.

A spokesperson said: "Once, the Forth was at the forefront of the industrial revolution that changed the world.

"Now, it’s part of a new green revolution to cut emissions and help stop climate change."

It comes as world leaders gather in Glasgow for the COP26 climate change conference.
