Scottish mum tells how masked man confronted terrified daughter on way to school

A Midlothian mum has issued a warning to others after her daughter was confronted on the way to school on Thursday morning.

She said the incident took place in Penicuik at 8:15am when the young girl fled a masked figure who grabbed at her.

Her daughter was confronted in the Cuickenburn area by a man described as wearing all dark clothing, a grey hat and a face covering. There was reportedly a black van with a white stripe parked nearby, Edinburgh Live understands.

Thankfully, the girl got away unscathed but was incredibly shaken and scared. The mother of the child took to social media to report the incident in the hope that others in the area remain vigilant and report the same person or van if they see it.

The incident was also reported to Police Scotland, but enquires are at an early stage.

A spokesperson said: "Around 4pm on Thursday, 9 December, 2021 officers received a report of a man having approached a child in Penicuik around 8.15am that morning.

"Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances."

Commenting on the mum's post, other online posters reported similar incidents in Loanhead and Gorebridge over the last week.
