Scottish man 'shot wife dead' in US apartment after moving to start new life

A Scottish man has been charged with the murder of his wife in their US apartment.

Wayne Fraser, originally from Aberdeen, moved to the US to start a new life and was married to 55-year-old Natalie Ryan-Fraser.

But US prosecutors have charged Fraser with killing his wife, who used a wheelchair, on December 30, the Daily Record report.

She had been visiting her 45-year-old husband at his rented flat in Caledonia, Mississippi while he was working away from their home in San Angelo, Texas.

But police were called to Cedar Street at around 8am on Thursday after claims a gun was fired.

Natalie, a university instructor, was pronounced dead on arrival and Fraser was arrested at the scene after police recovered a 9mm pistol in the flat.

US media reported Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said officers arrived at the property in response to a welfare check and the investigation is in the "preliminary stages stages".

He is being held in Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.

Fraser's social media has many pictures of him and his wife on it where he gushes over her.

Natalie's brother Kristopher paid a heartfelt tribute to his departed sister.

He said: "This just doesn’t seem real. She will be dearly missed.

"She was always there for me and Kory after mom died. This is just so difficult to swallow.

"She was definitely one of a kind. Just such a senseless tragedy."

Dr Ronnie Hawkins, Angelo State University's president, said in an email to staff and students on Friday night: "It is with a heavy heart that I notify our campus community of the loss of one of our long-term faculty members, Natalie Ryan.

"Natalie was a senior instructor in English and Modern Languages, and made an impact on the lives of countless students.

"On behalf of ASU leadership, we extend our deepest sympathy and support to her family, friends and co-workers during this difficult time. Natalie made a difference in the lives of many and will be missed."

Bail has been set at $500,000 for Fraser.
