Scottish lockdown expected to be eased - with golf, fishing and tennis back on

Keen golfers in Scotland could soon be able to enjoy a round, with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon expected to announce steps to ease parts of lockdown this week.

Alongside golf, other sports that get the green light could include fishing and tennis.

It is expected garden and recycling centres will also be reopened.

The First Minister is expected to make an announcement on Tuesday, according to The Times.

But it is thought she will not relax the rules on meeting with people from other households.

The Scottish Government is also working on major transport transition plans, with the number of rail passengers still low.

The First Minister has said previously she will reduce the lockdown in 'stages'.

She said: "Our judgement is that, given the case numbers and the R number, there is a risk in moving too quickly right now.

"However, that judgement moves and develops on a daily basis."

The announcement is due as NHS Scotland contact tracing technology will be tested in three health board areas from Monday.

The pilot, which is expected to last two weeks, will allow NHS Fife, NHS Lanarkshire and NHS Highland to test out the software which contact tracers will use to collect the information that they need digitally.

The Scottish Government said this builds on existing contact tracing technology in place across the NHS and will allow health boards to trace more contacts faster.

It said this is the first step in moving towards an extended test, trace, isolate and support (TTIS) approach which will be used to keep transmission in communities low as the country moves out of lockdown.

More than 600 additional NHS staff are ready to begin the work, as part of the process of recruiting up to 2000 staff.
