Scottish legal firm appoints European dealmaker as corporate practice director

Scottish law firm Anderson Strathern has hired Max Scharbert from transatlantic law firm Rooney Nimmo, where he was a corporate partner.

Scharbert is the long standing chairman of the German British Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Scotland.

He is qualified in German, English and Scots law and is the only triple-qualified lawyer in Scotland.

Scharbert has worked from Frankfurt, London and Edinburgh, advising clients from multinationals to start-ups on corporate transactions, with a focus on private equity, mergers and acquisitions.

He joins Anderson Strathern’s corporate and commercial practice.

The firm strengthened this division with the hire of partner Euan Tripp, a corporate finance and private equity specialist, from Brodies in 2019.

Scharbert said: “The pandemic has been a challenging time, what it has also showed is that investors continue to invest in and support innovative companies and that is reflected in terms of the firm’s client activity in recent times.”

Bruce Farquhar, chair and corporate partner at Anderson Strathern, added: “Max has been practising law in the UK and Europe for over 20 years, and his depth of experience and range of contacts across the investor community mean he is an excellent addition for the firm as we look to build out our investment and deal making team.”
