Scottish kids could return to school full-time in August if COVID-19 is further suppressed

Children across Scotland could return to school full-time if the coronavirus is further suppressed.

In a statement to the Scottish Parliament this afternoon, cabinet secretary for education John Swinney said the Scottish Government is now aiming for schools to return full-time in August.

Mr Swinney said: "We did not want to see blended learning implemented for a moment longer than necessary.

"Now thankfully the picture looks more positive.

"If we can further suppress this terrible virus the government believes we should prepare for children to be able to return to school full-time in August.

"I must stress this is the aim the government is now working towards however it has to be achieved safely and it inevitably remains conditional and dependant upon ongoing scientific health advice."
