Scottish Junior Cup: Irvine Meadow boss hails 'exceptional' Kello Rovers as he reacts to cup upset

Brian McGinty said Irvine Meadow had blown a 'great opportunity' after nine-man Kello sent them crashing out of the Scottish Junior Cup.

The Medda boss offered up no excuses for yesterday's shock fifth round defeat against Scott Clelland's League One minnows as he insisted complacency was not to blame for the 2-1 loss.

He said: "It was a case of not playing well enough. We had chances to win five or six games.

"Today's all about credit to Kello, they thoroughly deserved their win.

"We had a great opportunity, and no disrespect to Kello saying this, to get through to the quarter finals and we didn't take it.

"It wasn't a complacency thing. We didn't come down here thinking it was an easy game.

"We had them watched, we knew it would be hard.

"Sometimes when you play a team from a couple of leagues down you think as long as the game is tight after 70 minutes your fitness will tell.

"We knew that wasn't gong to be the case because Paddy's got a really fit team there.

"Truth be told, Kello could've maybe been a couple of goals up at half-time.

"Second half we didn't deserve to get back into it playing against 10 men. Kello were exceptional."

McGinty also refused to dwell on referee Chris Gentles' controversial decision to rule out a stoppage time Calum Gow header that would have almost certainly forced a replay.

"I've not seen it but whether it's a foul or not the referee has made a decision.

"If I'm sitting in Paddy's shoes I'd have been devastated my team hadn't won that game because they deserved it.

"We can pick bones out performances and we have done but the reality is if the other team plays as they did and you miss chances and give away cheap goals you're out."
