Scottish Junior Cup: East Kilbride Thistle in 'good place' to knock out Carluke Rovers

East Kilbride Thistle caretaker boss Alan Paterson is eyeing another Junior Cup away win as his side prepare to face Lanark United in round two on Saturday.

The Jags claimed a huge scalp at Broughty Ferry in the first round last month when they sent the 2020 quarter-finalists crashing out on penalties.

Now they must head to Moor Park on Saturday looking to knock out West of Scotland League Conference C rivals the Yowes.

The sides met in the league earlier this month when they battled out a 2-2 draw, but there will need to be a winner on Saturday and Paterson is confident his side can come through after going so close to a win in the last meeting.

He said: “We drew 2-2 with Lanark a couple of weeks ago and I was disappointed because we lost a goal in the 95th minute.

“If we took our chances we would have won.

“I think we are in a better place now.

“We aren’t going to win the Scottish Cup, so we’ll just go and enjoy ourselves.

“Not many teams will go to Lanark and beat them, but it’s two perfectly matched teams and it should be a good game.

“I didn’t realise Broughty Ferry got to the quarter-finals a couple of years ago, so it was a massive scalp for us.

“We didn’t even expect to be in this round, so there’s no pressure on us.

“But we want to keep progressing every week and see an improvement.

“If we apply ourselves right on Saturday, we’ve got a good chance of winning.”

The Jags go into the clash on a high after beating Kilsyth Rangers 2-1 in their first match at their Showpark home for 18 months.
