Scottish insurance veteran named as esure’s new CEO

Scottish insurance industry veteran David McMillan is to take the reins as chief executive at esure this summer.

Edinburgh-based McMillan, who had a long career with Aviva, is currently group chief operating officer of QBE, one of the world's top 20 insurance and reinsurance companies.

He is expected to join esure in August subject to regulatory approval and takes over from Darren Ogden who has been in the post on an interim basis since Stuart Vann stepped down last year. No pay details have been disclosed but Vann was on a basic salary of £524,000 before he left the company.

Sir Peter Wood, chairman of esure which was bought by private equity giant Bain last year, said : “David has a strong track record of delivering digital transformation across the insurance market.  Under his leadership, I am confident the business will deliver on its strategic ambitions."

McMillan, a former Arbroath High School pupil, said: "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead esure under Bain's ownership. esure has great potential and can be at the forefront of the digital disruption of the UK insurance market.

"These are exciting times and I am looking forward to working alongside the dedicated and ambitious team at esure to create a world class business."

Before joining QBE in 2017 McMillan was chief executive officer Europe and India and chairman of global health insurance for Aviva. He also served as Aviva’s CEO of UK general insurance & group transformation officer. He joined Aviva in 2002 following almost 10 years with the management consulting arm of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
