A "LONG-TERM" Scottish independence communication campaign is being launched, with posters and banners already distributed across the country.
Independence group Meidas Scotland, which previously distributed 68 banners to 22 Yes groups across Scotland, are now promoting one message in the hopes to "avoid diluting the message" to the electorate.
The design, depicting Scotland breaking the chains from Westminster Rule, features the caption “Free Scotland From Westminster Rule”. The artwork was created by Colin Dunn, who is known as "indy poster boy".
"We spent quite a while debating this approach and final message as we felt it’s far more productive to concentrate Scotland’s ire on Westminster, after all, that’s where the problems stem from," Jim Mennie from Meidas Scotland told The National.
"The term ‘From Westminster Rule’ is less provocative, ditches the ‘Braveheart’ image and stigma, and takes away any bias against the good people of England, i.e. it's Westminster we have the argument with, therefore more respectful to our neighbours.
"Much as we love our Saltire, we decided the main image and message was more important. Sometimes, less is more."
The group has already stated to print and distribute banners, A2 and A3 size Correx boards, posters and window stickers.
As not all independence supporters and groups have sufficient funds to participate, the group have asked for voluntary contributions to assist in production.
As of Tuesday, the crowdfunder has raised more than £1180 in donations. The target is £3000.
Supporters are also being encouraged to participate in the campaign on social media by quoting sharing the posters with the hashtag #freescotland26.
One activist wrote on BlueSky: "I think getting the message over should involve doing just exactly what you're suggesting.
"Instead of 'should Scotland be an independent country' as in 2014, it should concentrate more on 'freeing Scotland from Westminster control' which would of course result in an independent Scotland."
