Scottish ice cream shop destroyed in deliberate car fire attack

A SCOTTISH ice cream shop has been destroyed after a car was crashed into it and set on fire.

A vehicle was driven into the Cookiez n Creamz shop on Kyle Square in Rutherglen in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

After being reversed into the store, the vehicle was then set alight and this caused serious damage to the shop and the flat above.

It is understood that the scene was taped off and officers carried out investigations at the scene.

Nobody has been left injured by the fire attack, but the resident of the upstairs flat has had to seek other accommodation.

The force confirmed it is investigating the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers are treating a fire at an ice cream shop on Kyle Square, Rutherglen, as suspicious.

"Around 1.20am on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, a car was deliberately driven into the shop and the car set alight which has significantly damaged the shop premises as a result.

"Following a multi-agency response, surrounding accommodation was initially evacuated as a precaution.

"A flat immediately above the business is still affected with the householder seeking alternative accommodation.

"There have been no reports of anyone being injured.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
