Scottish hotspots for EV travellers

ELECTRIC car experts have highlighted two Scottish museums and the North Coast 500 as ideal for EV staycationers to visit.

The Great Electrifying.com Getaway Awards honour attractions in the UK with the best charging facilities across five categories.

Appropriately, the transport-themed Riverside Museum in Glasgow won the Culture and History Lovers category, while Dundee’s V&A was highly recommended.

And the famous North Coast 500 driving route was praised for its abundance of rapid chargers along the way in the Road Trippers class, which was won by the M6 Rugby Services.

Other champions included the Warner Bros Studio Tour London for Family Attractions, Weymouth in Dorset in the Beside the Seaside class and Concierge Camping’s Chichester site in Hampshire in the Places to Stay or Eat sector.

The judging panel included some of the nation’s most experienced and knowledgeable electric car and travel journalists, such as Electrifying.com’s founder Ginny Buckley, Nicki Shields, Tom Ford and Tom Barnard.

Ginny said: “It is safe to say the nation is understandably desperate to escape and enjoy themselves. During 18 months of lockdown, the popularity of electric cars skyrocketed, so we are giving our recommendations for destinations where you can recharge while you relax.

“A short stay in the UK, a road trip or simply visiting a fantastic attraction with friends or family can be just what you need. But with a rapidly growing contingent of electric car owners, it’s essential that they are catered for.”
