Scottish highway maintenance firm begins recruitment drive

BEAR Scotland is recruiting up to 50 new highway maintenance operatives for work in communities across South East Scotland.

Roadworkers of all levels of experience are required for local job opportunities out of its depots at Rosyth, Queensferry, Bonnyrigg, Burghmuir, St Boswells, Eyemouth and Chryston.

Last year, the company began an eight-year contract to manage and maintain the trunk road network in South East Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland, covering 506km of trunk roads from central Scotland to the Scottish Borders, as well as 757 bridges and structures, including the Queensferry Crossing and Forth Road Bridge.

Alasdair Allen, senior operations manager for the South East Unit, said: “With pandemic travel restrictions now easing, trunk roads are ever more important lifelines and we’re building up our team in South East Scotland.

“Our contract with Transport Scotland is guaranteed to run for at least eight years, so a job with BEAR means long-term job security.

“Roadworker jobs provide good opportunities for overtime, a varied workload and the opportunity work in some of Scotland’s most beautiful landscape - we provide on the job training for most roles, including apprenticeship options.”

BEAR Scotland has worked with Transport Scotland maintaining various contracts on the Scottish trunk road network since 2001.

The company was formed by the alliance of Eurovia UK, Jacobs and Breedon Group.
