Scottish hairdressers given official date for reopening as Nicola Sturgeon announces further lockdown easing

Nicola Sturgeon has announced that hairdressers in Edinburgh and the rest of Scotland will be able to reopen on July 15.

Salons have been given the green light to get back to work in just three weeks time, providing the country continues to make positive progress in reducing the spread of coronavirus.

The First Minister revealed the date today at the Scottish Government's daily coronavirus briefing, and also stated a selection of other dates that certain lockdown measures will ease.

The salons were included in phase three of the country's route map out of lockdown published on May 21, with no official date as to when that phase would begin.

Despite being allowed to take in clients again, hairdressers will have to follow a series of new measures to ensure both staff and customer safety when receiving their treatment.

Social distancing must be enforced as much as possible, alongside constant cleaning and sanitisation. Perspex screens will separate clients and they will be asked to bring as little personal belongings as possible.

Staff will also be wearing personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves, and will ask the majority of customers to do the same where possible.
