Scottish Greens co-leader Lorna Slater tests positive for Covid-19

The co-leader of the Scottish Greens is self-isolating after testing positive for coronavirus.

Lorna Slater, who is also the Scottish Government's Minister for Green Skills, Circular Economy and Biodiversity, tweeted she had "only cold-like symptoms" and is double vaccinated.

The positive result means the MSP will be unable to attend any events in relation to the COP26 climate conference which begins in Glasgow tomorrow.

In her tweet, Slater wrote: "I had a positive Covid-19 test result.

"I feel very relieved to be double vaccinated and have only cold-like symptoms.

"I will be self-isolating following NHS advice."

The MSP heads the party alongside Patrick Harvie who admitted "this timing sucks".

He also tweeted: "Get well Lorna, and I hope we all take this as a reminder to stay safe in the incredibly busy couple of weeks ahead."

Earlier on Saturday, Slater also took to Twitter in response to a post which highlighted how scientists suggest that with not immediate change to global activities, there could be "mass death and extinctions by around 2045".

She said in her own post: "This is the scale of the challenge that faces us.

"A lot of the world's wealth is tied up in fighting against the changes needed; many of the rich and powerful are in denial.

"We can imagine a different future: Peace, sustainability, equality, grassroots democracy."

Slater and Harvie became ministers earlier this year in a deal with the SNP which she said would put climate “at the heart of government”.

However they had also been dismissed as “SNP lapdogs” over their non-attendance at Cabinet meetings by Labour MSP Neil Bibby.

The pair were also forced to apologise after breaching strict coronavirus rules during a visit to an Edinburgh pub in May.
