Scottish Government say coronavirus figures for Lanarkshire rise again

The Scottish Government today said that 25 people have now tested positive for the coronavirus in Lanarkshire.

Yesterday’s figure for the county was 21.

The first case in Lanarkshire was confirmed on Sunday, March 8, when it was revealed someone from the Lanarkshire campus of the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), just outside Hamilton, had the  COVID-19 strain.

Across the country, a total of xxxx  Scottish tests have now concluded. Of these:

■ 5864 tests were confirmed negative

■ 227 tests were positive

Three patients in Scotland who tested positive for coronavirus have now died.

Community testing for coronavirus (COVID-19) is underway in Lanarkshire.

The new approach will help manage possible cases and minimise the risk of infection.

A new community team has been established in Lanarkshire to test people – at home – who have been identified as being at risk of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The dedicated team of nurses and healthcare clinical support workers are visiting people in their homes to collect samples for testing, making it easy for them to follow health advice rather than coming into contact with others in the likes of GP practices or hospitals.

The new approach will help quickly test any possible cases of coronavirus (COVID-19), keep staff safe and minimise the risk of infection.

In line with established infection control measures, the team will wear protective clothing while undertaking community testing.
