Scottish Government reveals which sports you can play in Phase One of lockdown

Sportscotland and the Scottish Government have released a list of most sports that Scots can take part in during the first phase of lockdown restrictions being eased.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon   announced that people can now meet with one other household to take part in daily exercise last week.

The move came as part of the Scottish Government’s plan to lift restrictions on the lockdown - with Scots enjoying new freedoms under Phase One of the plan.

A range of non-contact sports have since been given the green light under the new rules - such as golf, tennis and bowls.

Under the new legislation Scots can mix with one other household to take part in these sports outdoors.

People must only travel five miles to an outdoor space and must comply with the social distancing measures outlined by medical and scientific chiefs.

Sharing equipment with one another is forbidden under the guidelines in a bid to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

A maximum of eight people from two households are allowed to take part in any sport.

It is hoped that the reintroduction of some sports will help lift the spirits of Scots who may be struggling to cope mentally during the pandemic.

Sports Minister Joe FitzPatrick said: “Like me, I’m sure that many people across the country will be delighted to see the resumption of some of our favourite outdoor activities, with all the associated physical and mental health benefits they bring. I would encourage everyone to get out and get active, but to do so in a safe and responsible way.”

Sportscotland has listed a number of sports that it has offered guidance on during Phase One.

A spokesperson for the national agency for sport said that it does not cover every possible activity possible under the new public health advice.
