Scottish Government reveals one death and 2,040 Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that one person has died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The latest figures for Scotland also show 2,040 new cases of the virus have been identified in this period.

It brings the death toll since last March - of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - to 8,666.

There are currently 965 people in hospital confirmed to have covid-19 with 71 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started stands at 573,471.

To date, 4,208,546 people have received their first vaccination with 3,845,180 having a second jab.

It comes after the Scottish Government assured that “teething problems” with the launch of Scotland’s covid vaccine passport scheme would be resolved within days.

The scheme, which started on Friday, means people will need to prove they’ve had both vaccines to enter ‘high risk’ venues including nightclubs and some large scale events.

The vaccine certification app has already been criticised as not being fit for purpose, but the government has stressed there is a grace period before the rules are enforced on October 18 which allows for it to be tested and fixed.
