More than 350 people are now in Lanarkshire's hospitals with coronavirus.
Figures published by the Scottish Government revealed that, at midnight, a record 367 patients in the county's hospitals had tested positive for Covid-19 - a 27 per cent rise in a week.
The number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care units across the region has also increased by 25 per cent over the past week to 20, for the first time since November.
Last week, NHS Lanarkshire cancelled a number of planned operations and out-patient appointments after it was revealed 288 patients were being treated for coronavirus.
With hospitals running at 96 per cent capacity, the health board have had to free up beds to make room for the influx of Covid patients which topped 300 for the first time last week.
Rates of transmission have increased following a slight easing in restrictions over Christmas but fell back below 2000 last week.
The health board had feared the number of people in hospital with coronavirus could double in the space of a week and Judith Park, director of acute services for NHS Lanarkshire, warned: “The current pandemic has had an additional impact on our services. The hospitals are full and the numbers of Covid-19 admissions are increasing."
Following a spike in Covid cases in December, University Hospital Wishaw was forced to step up cleaning measures and closed wards to new patients.
Across Scotland, 1959 patients were in hospital with coronavirus - 146 of which were in intensive care.
