Scottish Government is being 'frozen out' of key no-deal Brexit talks say SNP

The Scottish Government is being frozen out of key talks to deal with a catastrophic no-deal split from Europe, the SNP’s Brexit minister said yesterday.

Michael Russell said Boris Johnson has all but blocked access to official meetings since taking over from Theresa May.

He said: “It may be that they are simply disorganised or it might be that they are deliberately keeping us in the dark in order to try and blame us when things go wrong.”

Russell said May’s previous administration had ensured “considerable” cooperation between governments, despite their clear differences.

In Holyrood yesterday, Russell told MSPs there have been 26 meetings of the UK committee overseeing preparations for a no-deal exit, but Scottish ministers had been invited to two.

He said: “If these meetings are indeed intended to prepare the UK for Brexit, then we must assume that important matters relating to health, justice and public order, immigration, transport – and many others – would be discussed.

“Yet we have not been asked to take part.”
