Scottish football clubs are set to hold their breath as the government considers whether to 'cancel' major sporting fixtures.
The new Omicron variant of Covid is causing widespread concern and the Scottish government is said to be considering tougher restrictions, according to the BBC.
Wales has already announced their plans for sporting events to be held without crowds from Boxing Day and only one English Premier League game was held on Saturday due to Covid postponements.
First minister Nicola Sturgeon has said there will be no changes to rules or advice around Christmas Day, but restrictions could come afterwards.
Reportedly, concern around sporting fixtures in Scotland stems from fans travelling to and from matches and close contact with others in queues and toilets.
The emergency services also want to free up crews that could be used for other priorities.
Clubs are eager to avoid the reality of behind closed doors football again like last season and all SPFL outfits started daily testing routines this week to aid the fight against Covid.
Scotland recorded over 6,700 new Covid infections on Monday, with the percentage of positives tests at its highest level since January.
