Scottish Government confirms two Covid deaths over the weekend in Dundee

The Scottish Government has confirmed there was two coronavirus deaths reported in Dundee over the weekend.

Data from Public Health Scotland also shows 257 new cases were recorded across Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the city.

The city's death toll - composed of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - now sits at 297.

In total, Dundee has recorded 21,465 cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

The latest local vaccination data shows that 85.9% of the over-16 population have received at least one coronavirus vaccination, and 79.2% have received at least two.

Over half of city children aged 12 to 15, 50.3%, have also received at least one Covid jab.

In the last 24 hours, 2,065 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded across Scotland.

There have been no new deaths linked to the virus as of Sunday, although 24 people across the country have been admitted to intensive care.

In total 4,188,267 over-16s have now received at least one Covid jab - 92.1% of the total over-16 population - and 3,906,267 have received a second. Of those, 708,318 people have also been given a third booster jab.

It comes after claims a self-isolating headteacher was caught in an airport on her way to Turkey on Snapchat.

Alicia Reid, 52, was allegedly snapped at Glasgow Airport two days before the official October break.

It is believed that she had told her colleagues at that she had been "pinged" as a close contact of someone with Covid-19.

Reid is now set to be replaced by an acting rector of Stranraer Academy in Dumfries and Galloway as a probe is undertaken.
