Scottish Government confirms red list countries as travel rules change

Following the UK travel update, the Scottish Government have confirmed the red list countries for Scotland.

The red list has been slashed to just seven countries after the UK Government reviewed the travel rules.

The traffic light system was put in place to control the spread of Covid-19 in March 2020 and as more Brits have been vaccinated, now only the red list remains.

This is the first review since the traffic light system was scrapped on October 4. Those who are fully vaccinated and travelling back to the UK other country that isn't on the red list do not need to isolate in a hotel, but do need to take a PCR test on day two.

The rules follow the amber list requirements for vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers. Those who are not fully vaccinated need to isolate for 10 days at home and take a day two and day eight PCR test as well as a pre-departure test before coming into Scotland.

In addition, vaccine certificates from more countries will be recognised to allow quarantine-free travel to Scotland.

Certificates from a further 37 countries will be recognised, as well as those issued under the United Nations vaccination programme.

Travellers are encouraged to check the entry requirements and travel rules for the countries they are visiting as each destination can enforce their own rules, no matter what category they are in for the UK.

What countries are on the red list?

  • Colombia
  • Dominican Republic
  • Ecuador
  • Haiti
  • Panama
  • Peru
  • Venezuela

Transport Minister Graeme Dey said: “This change to travel restrictions recognises the success of the Scottish Government’s vaccination programme.

“It’s important we continue to exercise caution which is why a red list of countries will be retained, carefully monitored and updated following a review at regular intervals. If evidence and circumstances change, we will not hesitate to reintroduce restrictions to protect public health in Scotland.

“But the steps we are seeing now pave the way for growth in the travel and tourism sector who we have listened very carefully to and engaged with widely on throughout this difficult period.”
