Scottish Government confirms no new Covid deaths and 3,893 new cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed there have been no new coronavirus deaths and 3,893 new cases overnight.

The death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – still stands at 8,111.

There are currently 551 people in Scottish hospitals battling the virus, with 52 being treated in intensive care.

Some 4,103,687 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,668,041 have received their second dose in Scotland.

It comes after Nicola Sturgeon was contacted by the NHS Test & Protect team following a close contact testing positive for the virus.

She tweeted: "I’ve had notification tonight that I’ve been identified as a close contact of someone who is positive for Covid. Accordingly, and in line with the rules, I’ll be self-isolating pending a PCR test result.

However, the First Minister took to social media earlier this morning to announce that her self-isolation would be ending because she is doubled jabbed.

As a precaution she said she would be taking Lateral Flow Tests regularly to prevent the spread of the virus.

The SNP leader tweeted: "Relieved to report that my PCR test is negative. Coupled with fact I’m double vaccinated - with second dose more than 2 weeks ago - that means I no longer need to isolate.
