Scottish Government confirms no new coronavirus deaths with 85 positive cases overnight

No new coronavirus deaths were recorded overnight in Scotland with 85 new positive cases.

The Scottish Government announced the latest figures on Wednesday, May 5, as efforts to control the virus spreading continue.

Public Health Scotland said the low number of new cases reported may be due to "data flow issues" from UK Government testing sites since 3pm yesterday and warned the actual figure could be higher.

It was also reported that 69 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in hospital with 13 in intensive care.

The total number of confirmed cases now sits at 226,729 since the start of the pandemic while 7,660 people have tragically lost their lives.

The number of people who have received their first dose of the vaccine sits at 2,846,834 while 1,373,882 have had their second.

Meanwhile, as Scots prepare to cast their votes in the Holyrood elections tomorrow, they are being reminded to observe social distancing measures.

People arriving at polling stations will be asked to wear face coverings at all times unless they are exempt on medical grounds.

Hand sanitiser will be provided for use on entry and when leaving the venues.

Voters are also being warned they may be asked to queue outside as a limit on the numbers allowed in at one time while some stations may operate a one-way system.
