Scottish Government confirms no deaths and 72 new cases of Covid-19 in Dundee

The Scottish Government has confirmed there were no further coronavirus deaths reported in Dundee in the last 24 hours.

Data from Public Health Scotland also shows that 72 new cases were recorded overnight in the city.

The city's death toll - composed of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - remains at 293.

In total, Dundee has recorded 20,926 cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

The latest local vaccination data shows that 85.8% of the over-16 population have received at least one coronavirus vaccination, and 78.8% have received at least two.

Around 49.3% of city children aged 12 to 15 have also received at least one Covid jab.

Meanwhile, the latest figures for Scotland showed that 2,240 new cases have been identified overnight - with no deaths recorded across the country.

It brings the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 9,052.

There are currently 902 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 57 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started stands at 627,597.

To date 4,308,371 people have received their first vaccination with 3,895,239 having a second jab.

The figures come amid increasing concerns of a spike in cases following the upcoming COP26 climate change conference.

Thousands from across the world will descend upon Glasgow for the United Nations summit which begins next week.

Health Secretary Humza Yousaf has admitted the conference could create an increase "risk" of more coronavirus cases in Scotland.

There are particular concerns that the NHS could be put even more pressure in the near future while already experiencing unprecedented rates.
