Scottish Government confirms no deaths and 6221 new Covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that 6,221 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

The latest figures for Scotland now include cases identified using either a first positive LFD (lateral flow device) or PCR test.

It also showed there were no further deaths who had tested positive for the virus, meaning the toll under this measurement since the start of pandemic remains at 10,062.

There are currently 1,557 people in hospital confirmed to have Covid with 43 being treated in intensive care.

However the Scottish Government also pointed out: "One health board has not been able to submit data since Sunday 16/01/2022, their data has been rolled forwards from Saturday 15/01/2022."

To date, 4,400,229 people have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccination with 4,087,517 having a second jab and 3,204,311 receiving a third dose or booster.

It comes after Covid restrictions on the number of fans allowed at outdoor events across Scotland were lifted, meaning sports matches can go ahead at full capacity.

Nicola Sturgeon put rules in place from Boxing Day to limit the number of people who can attend outdoor gatherings to a maximum of 500.

On Tuesday last week, the First Minister announced these rules would be eased amid early signs the country had "turned a corner".

As well as football matches, Murrayfield will be able to hold a full house in the Six Nations rugby.
