Scottish Government confirms no deaths and 1567 new Covid cases in last 24 hours

No new deaths from coronavirus have been recorded in the last 24 hours, the Scottish Government have announced.

1567 new cases have been identified overnight according to latest figures.

It means the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – remains at 8,032.

There are also currently 337 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 39 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started stands at 365,427.

4,058,482people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,467,817 have received their second.

The latest numbers come as children in Scotland are set to go back to the classroom this week after the summer holidays.

Several coronavirus restrictions will still be in place for pupils as the Scottish Government attempts see a safe return to the classroom.

Social distancing measures and face coverings could be in place for the first six weeks of the school in a bid to keep cases down.
