Scottish Government confirms no Covid deaths in Dundee for second day running

The Scottish Government has confirmed there were no coronavirus deaths reported in Dundee in the last 24 hours for the second day running.

Data from Public Health Scotland also shows that 50 new cases were recorded overnight in the city.

The city's death toll - composed of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - remains at exactly 300.

In total, Dundee has recorded 21,739 cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

The latest local vaccination data shows that 84.3% of the over-12 population have received at least one coronavirus vaccination, and 75.8% have received at least two.

Just over a fifth, 20.1%, have also had a third booster jab.

Across the country, 2,389 new positive cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the last day - a total of 656,497 since the pandemic began.

Sadly a further 25 Covid-confirmed deaths have also been recorded, putting the country's overall death toll from the virus at 9,267.

A further seven people have been admitted to intensive care.

Meanwhile, 4,316,473 over-12s - 90.2% of the over-12 population - have received at least one Covid jab while 3,912,515 (81.8%) have received two.

A total of 892,198 over-12s (18.7%) have also received follow-up booster shots.

The figures come as the Daily Record revealed coronavirus has killed three of Scotland’s most notorious violent prisoners in a matter of months.

Covid-19 was named on the death certificates of two brutal killers and a violent armed robber as a string of outbreaks continue to plague the country’s jails.

Prison records show the virus was a factor in the deaths of callous murderers John ‘Jock’ Reid and Asif Rehman.

Torture killer John Reid also died while serving a life sentence at HMP Glenochil in July this year. His death certificate said he died of “Covid-19 disease and viral pneomontis” - otherwise known as pneumonia.
