Scottish Government confirms no covid deaths and 268 new cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed no covid deaths and 268 new cases in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

The latest figures take the total number of positive cases since the pandemic began to 230,042 while the death toll remains at 7,664.

There are currently 70 people in hospital with four being treated in intensive care.

To date 3,045,152 people have received their first vaccination with 1,669,469 having a second jab.

The news comes as Glasgow residents aged 18-39 are set to be offered a first dose of a covid vaccine as soon as next week as health bosses try to stop the Indian variant of the virus from spreading across the city.

The jabs will be offered as a priority this week to those living in ‘affected areas’ - centred around the G41, G42, G5, G51, and G52 postcodes in the southside of the council area - with final plans being put in place in the coming days.

Jason Leitch has warned the area could be set to stay in Level 3 restrictions for longer than a week.
