The Scottish Government has confirmed four new cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 have been reported in Tayside overnight.
Data from Public Health Scotland also shows that a total 172 new cases were recorded overnight in the region.
The area's death toll - composed of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - remains at 761.
The new total includes five cases of the new Omicron variant, up four from yesterday.
In total, Tayside has recorded 54,542 cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic began.
The latest local vaccination data shows that 90.4% of the over-12 population have received at least one coronavirus vaccination, and 82.7% have received at least two.
Around 51.6% have also received a third vaccination.
Across the country, 3,117 new positive cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the last day - a total of 772,738 since the pandemic began.
Omicron cases account for 110 of the new cases and in total the variant accounts for 296 Covid cases in Scotland to date.
Two people have also been admitted to hospital with the new variant.
Sadly a further six Covid-confirmed deaths have also been recorded, putting the country's overall death toll from the virus at 9,725.
A further four people have been admitted to intensive care.
Meanwhile, 4,356,646 over-12s - 91.1% of the adult population - have received at least one Covid jab while 3,978,142 (83.2%) have received two.
A total of 2,200,037 people over 12 (46%) have also received follow-up booster shots.
The figures come as it was revealed that people are being asked to limit socialising to three households in order to protect Christmas.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon issued an important update to the Scottish Parliament on the measures required in the coming days and weeks to combat the rise of the Omicron variant.
