Scottish Government confirms eight coronavirus deaths overnight amid 400 new cases

A further eight people have died of coronavirus in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

The Scottish Government released the latest figures this afternoon, showing a further 400 new cases recorded in the same time frame.

It brings the total number of cases to 218,832 since the start of the pandemic.

Currently, 215 Scots are being treated in hospital with 21 people in intensive care.

A total of 7,610 people in Scotland have now lost their lives to Covid-19 according to official records.

The figures update comes after is was revealed pubs across Scotland will miss out on the chance to sell eight million pints this Easter weekend.

Industry bosses have criticised SNP ministers for refusing to allow bars  sell takeaway drinks  even as their premises are closed to customers.

Easter weekend is usually boom time for  the country's licensed trade  but it's the second year in a row landlords have missed out due to coronavirus restrictions.

The Scottish Beer and Pub Association (SBPA) suggests the loss of beer sales over this Easter weekend alone will result in the sector missing out on £31 million of trade.
