Scottish Government confirms 26 deaths and 8,203 new Covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that 8,203 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

The latest figures for Scotland showed there were 26 further deaths who had tested positive for the virus.

There are currently 1,560 people in hospital confirmed to have Covid with 58 being treated in intensive care.

To date, 4,395,793 people have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccination with 4,057,606 having a second jab and 3,159,109 receiving a third dose or booster.

It comes after Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross called for Boris Johnson to resign after the Prime Minister admitted attending a party at Number 10 during lockdown.

Jacob Rees-Mogg later described Mr Ross as a “lightweight figure” in the party following the call for Johnson’s resignation.

In the House of Commons on Tuesday, he apologised for the way he handled the May 2020 event in the No.10 Downing Street garden.
