Scotland has recorded 16 Covid deaths in the last 24 hours, according to official figures.

The latest Scottish Government revealed that 7,195 new coronavirus cases had also been identified overnight.

There are currently 1,041 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 11 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started stands at 1,369,385.

To date 4,433,961 people have received their first vaccination with 4,154,182 having a second jab and 3,415,942 have received a third dose or booster.

It comes after he Auditor General said Scotland's National Health Service is under severe pressure, is "not financially sustainable" and needs reform.

A review of the NHS by Audit Scotland warned of an "ever-increasing backlog of patients waiting to be seen" and that rising spending on the health service was "unsustainable".

Its report said the Government "struggles to recruit enough people with the right skills" into the health service and increasing staffing in the NHS must be a priority.
