Scottish Government confirm no new deaths from coronavirus as 761 new cases recorded overnight

No new deaths from coronavirus have been reported overnight with 761 new cases confirmed.

The Scottish Government announced the latest figures this afternoon.

It was confirmed there are currently 128 people being treated in hospital for the virus with 17 in ICU.

The total number of coronavirus deaths sits at 7,681 since the start of the pandemic.

A total of 3,517,668 people have now had their first coronavirus of the vaccine while 2,446,834 have been double-dosed.

The news comes as the SNP demand that chancellor Rishi Sunak extends the furlough scheme and business rates freeze if lockdown restrictions continue for another month.

Sunak is expected to start winding down the scheme at the end of this month despite the expected delay to ending lockdown in England.

Boris Johnson is likely to confirm on Monday that lockdown and social distancing measures will continue in England until mid-July which could have a knock-on effect on easing restrictions in Scotland on 28 June.
