Scottish Government confirm 20 deaths and 3,867 new Covid cases in last 24 hours

A total of 20 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the Scottish Government has confirmed.

The latest figures for Scotland showed that 3,867 new cases had also been identified overnight.

However the Government said test and case numbers "are still affected by a data flow issue at the Glasgow Lighthouse laboratory".

While the issue has been resolved, they add the "backlog of results has impacted on newly reported cases and tests".

The daily death toll of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days now stands at 9,143 since March 2020.

There are currently 926 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 65 being treated in intensive care.

To date 4,315,802 people have received their first vaccination with 3,905,177 having a second jab.

The news come as Scottish Green Party co-leader Lorna Slater confirmed has been infected with the virus.

She tweeted she had "only cold-like symptoms" and is double vaccinated.

The positive result means the MSP will be unable to attend any events in relation to the COP26 climate conference which begins in Glasgow tomorrow.

In her tweet, Slater wrote: "I had a positive Covid-19 test result.

"I feel very relieved to be double vaccinated and have only cold-like symptoms.

"I will be self-isolating following NHS advice."
