Scottish Government announces 35 deaths and 2,911 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that 35 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours,

The latest figures for Scotland showed that 2,911 new cases had also been identified overnight.

It brings the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 8,614.

There are currently 998 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 74 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started stands at 566,231.

To date 4,189,701 people have received their first vaccination with 3,837,689 having a second jab.

The figures come as NHS Scotland's vaccine passport app launches today ahead of the certification being imposed from tomorrow.

However, Nicola Sturgeon said that businesses would not be legally enforced to check them for at least another two weeks.

The app is free to download but a paper pass is also available and could be more appropriate for travellers.
