Scottish Government announces no new Covid deaths amid 345 cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that no people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The latest figures for Scotland showed that 345 new cases had been identified overnight, bringing the total number since the pandemic began to 228,423.

It means the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - remains the same at 7,661.

There are currently 65 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 6 being treated in intensive care.

2,948,604 people have received the first dose of vaccination, with 1,526,889 getting their second.

It comes after a blow to Scots holiday makers, as popular tourists  destinations  including Spain, Greece and France were missed off the 'green list' in Scotland's new traffic light travel system.

Nicola Sturgeon announced the new  international travel  measures on Tuesday with countries placed in three categories - red, amber or green - depending on coronavirus cases.

Travellers returning from a 'green list' destination will not have to quarantine on their return, with the system mirroring the one adopted in England.

Meanwhile most of the country gears up to move into level 2 restrictions from next Monday.

The First Minister announced plans for the latest easing of restrictions will go ahead as planned, meaning people can meet indoors again and alcohol can be served inside.
