Scottish Government announces no deaths and 7,113 Covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that no people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours,

The latest figures for Scotland showed that 7,113 new cases had also been identified overnight.

It brings the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 8,103.

There are currently 507 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 52 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started stands at 407,660.

4,101,311 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,655,287 have received their second.

The figures come as Health Secretary Humza Yousaf urged all under-40s to get their second vaccine amid a surge in cases.

He said Covid-19 remains a "significant threat" and urged people within the age group to book an appointment or go to a drop-in clinic.

The Scottish Government warned the number of cases is rising and that about two thirds of new ones are in those aged under 40.

They also made up 30% of c oronavirus related hospital admissions and 58% of hospital admissions admissions amongst unvaccinated people.

Yousaf said: "Scotland's vaccination programme has been one of the fastest in the world, but it's clear there are some people, particularly aged under 40, who have been offered a second appointment and, for whatever reason, have not yet attended.

"Our message to you is clear. It's not too late to get your vaccine and it remains vital that you get both doses in order to give maximum protection against this virus. Please don't leave the job half done."
