Scottish Government announces no deaths and 641 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that no people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours with 641 new cases identified overnight.

It means the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – remains the same at 7,677.

There are currently 122 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 12 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic hit stands at 241,169.

To date 3,386,321 people have received their first vaccination with 2,251,259 having a second jab.

The figures come as landlords pleaded with Nicola Sturgeon not to force them to kick fans out of pubs if Scotland reach the knock-out round of the Euros for the first time.

Across the country, Scots are preparing to celebrate if the country's team gets past the group stage of the major international tournament.

But, under Level 2 rules, hospitality premises must close at 10.30pm - which means they could shut while any match that goes to extra time and penalties is still being played.

Hospitality bosses want lockdown licensing laws to allow later opening for showpiece occasions, such as Scotland matches.
