Scottish Government announces no deaths and 250 new covid cases in last 24 hours

No people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the Scottish Government has confirmed.

The latest figures for Scotland showed that 250 new cases had been identified overnight.

The death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – remains the same at 7,626.

There are currently 168 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 20 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic hit stands at 221,431.

To date 2,657,578 people have received their first vaccination with 568,875 having a second jab.

The figures come as we told how Professor Jason Leitch has received the first dose of a coronavirus vaccine after months of leading Scotland through the pandemic.

The National Clinical Director for the Scottish Government was seen at the NHS Louisa Jordan in Glasgow on Friday.

He shared a photograph of himself receiving the jab on Twitter and has urged other Scots to get theirs when offered.

Mr Leitch tweeted: “Thank you to optometrist Uzair and everyone at the NHS Louisa Jordan at the SECC Glasgow.

“From invention, research, manufacture, procurement and distribution to my arm. I am enormously grateful. Please get yours when offered.”
