Scottish Government announces no deaths and 200 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that no people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The latest figures for Scotland showed that 200 new cases had been identified overnight.

It means the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – remains the same at 7,661.

There are currently 68 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 8 being treated in intensive care.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic hit stands at 227,248.

To date 2,897,975 people have received their first vaccination with 1,468,296 having a second jab.

The figures come as a students and staff at Scots higher education facilities are now able to access rapid coronavirus testing through their local college.

More than 100,000 lateral flow testing kits have been distributed to colleges across Scotland to help detect cases in people with no symptoms.

We reported that health staff in Grampian are now offering the Covid vaccine to those aged between 18-39 in response to the “uncontrolled” outbreak of the virus.

NHS Grampian has launched an incident management team (IMT) to try and bring the virus back under control, and is urging people to get tested even if they do not have symptoms.

It is a stark contrast to the picture across the country, with the same figure at 21.0 reported for the entire of Scotland.
